Do you have immigrant or refugee learners in your program? Do you know the key terms associated with immigration status and the impact they have on the lives of newcomers to Canada? How do their experiences affect them once they arrive in Canada? The objectives of Part One of this two-part series will help you:
- gain a better understanding of the pre-migration experiences of immigrant and refugees before they arrive in Canada
- gain insight into how these experiences affect them once they settle in Canada
- gain a better understanding of things like role changes and cultural connects
“Learning the human stories of refugees. I never knew the procedures/policies and the depth of their losses. The most useful aspect of this was how many parts and layers are relevant to working with refugees and newcomers.”
Karin Linschoten has been providing services for adults, youth and children from immigrant and refugee backgrounds since 2002. From 2012 to 2016, Karin was the representative for Canada on the International Council for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims.
You will receive a confirmation email once you have completed your registration form. Please note that you will need to register for both Part One and Part Two to receive a certificate of completion. An invitation to attend the meeting will be sent to you a week prior to the event.
