StorySacks
July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020
StorySacks is a learning activity to be held in conjunction with Candora’s Family Active Living program on Fridays for 1.5 hours per week for a 6-week session. In those sessions, parents, volunteers and other community members work together to make Storysacks as a strategy to learn about supporting and enriching the early literacy skills of preschool children. A StorySack is a large cloth bag that contains a high-quality children’s picture book and supporting information, materials, and activities which stimulate reading activities and other language-based play and interaction. Adult learners utilize many foundational literacy skills and are encouraged to bring their imagination and creativity to the program. The program offers opportunities for participants to find out about other available resources in the community, such as other literacy programs or their local library. Storysacks provides parents with the confidence to enjoy books and reading with their children. The supporting materials and activities enable the sharing of books at a variety of age and ability levels and encompass different learning styles. Families will be invited to join Family Active Living for a meal following the program.
